Jabulisiwe is a 50-year-old widowed mother with three children, ages 27-34. She lives in Hlabisa, South Africa (KZN) and runs a retail business selling chickens and renting African skirts for Zulu traditional dances. She is the leader of her borrowing group, and in the photo above she is wearing an orange shirt. She's been in this business for two years. She sells chicken and eggs from her home. She has two main challenges to her business: she is dependent on traditional dances occurring, and some customers take chickens on credit and do not pay. She requested this loan through Women's Development Businesses and KIVA to buy beads, black material, and other materials for traditional skirts. She says that the extra income from this loan will help her send her grandchild to school, pay for her school fees and build a family house. In the future, she would like to see her business grow and add more traditional clothing, like shirts and trousers. She would also like to have a formal place to advertise her business. She appreciates WDB and Kiva and would like to see WDB and Kiva one day come to her home to see the result of the loan she got from them.
